Relationship Enhancement (RE) Program
The Relationship Enhancement® (RE) Program is an internationally-renowned, highly effective, and proven skills-training workshop program that helps couples to give each other the Gift of Love by learning skills which make love comfortable, generous, healing, and joyful. Founded on values of honesty and compassion, RE enables each partner to fully express what is most important, develop a genuine understanding of each other, resolve conflict, and build love. It consists of training in 10 relationship skills that enable couples to:
1. Speak in ways that will help your partner want to cooperate
2. Express understanding in ways that will make your partner feel understood
3. Discuss issues and conflicts in ways that lead to solutions you both can feel good about
4. Find and express the positives that are part of every conflict
5. Use conflict to grow closer
6. Work out the details of agreements so issues resolved today are lived out tomorrow and next month
7. Use skills to transform over time both your couple relationship and your relationships with children, co-workers, and friends.
The Relationship Enhancement® Program is for all couples - those who simply want to make their relationship better as well as those who are experiencing difficulties.
The RE Program was provided to residents of Orange County through a federal grant from the Children's Bureau to the Orange County Social Services Agency. The RE Program was chosen as the program to bring into Orange County for this grant because of the extensive published research that documented its effectiveness across a wide range of marriages - including engaged couples, married couples seeking marriage enrichment, and couples experiencing significant difficulties in their marriages. As one example - in an award-winning, meta-analytic study involving thousands of couples and over a dozen approaches, RE clients showed far more powerful improvement effects than clients in any of the other interventions for couples or families with which it was compared; click here to see a graph of the results of that study.

Marriage Encounter - All Denominations
Marriage Encounter is a wonderful weekend getaway for married couples of any faith expression. In this weekend the couples focus on themselves and their relationship and learn a new form of communication. Over two million couples have revitalized their marriages by participating in a Marriage Encounter Weekend since the program was created in 1968, and they have done this for only one reason - because the program works! The power of the Marriage Encounter weekend experience was validated by a study by the National Institute of the Family, which found that:
"The Marriage Encounter Weekend/Program stands as the central positive experience of most couples. Over half of the couples participating in the weekend program consider their experience of it as "excellent". Another third of all couples reported it as "rather good". Together these two categories verify that the Marriage Encounter experience is a positive marriage enrichment experience for nine out of ten couples. (From the book "Marriage Savers", page 173).
Marriage Encounter is enthusiastically recommended by many leaders in the Marriage Movement. Here are two examples:
Doctor James Dobson, the well-know Christian psychologist and host of the radio program "Focus on the Family", shared his views on Marriage Encounter as follows: "Marriage Encounter gave Shirley and me the opportunity to occasion the deepest, most intimate exchange of feelings we had known in 20 years...It proved to be one of the highlights of my life...I just wish that everyone who trusts my opinion would now accept this advice: Attend a Marriage Encounter weekend at the earliest opportunity." (From the book "Marriage Savers", page 172)Mike McManus, the author and founder of the national organization "Marriage Savers" states "I am convinced that the single step that could do more than any other to slash America's divorce rate is for every married couple to attend a Marriage Encounter weekend. If you are married and have not gone on a Marriage Encounter, stop whatever you are doing and sign up for the next one." (From the book "Marriage Savers, page 172) The above two quotes are extremely strong endorsements from two of the most well-known and well-respected leaders in the National Marriage Movement.
Over 100 Marriage Encounter weekends are held each and every year in Southern California alone. They are split about evenly between those held in English and those held in Spanish. For a complete listing of all Marriage Encounter weekends held in Southern California, click "Marriage Encounter Weekend Listing" (From the main menu, select either "Engllish" or "Spanish", then "United States", then select "CA" and hit "Submit"; you will get a complete listing of upcoming weekends).

Note: While Marriage Encounter started in the Catholic Church, Marriage Encounter weekends are now provided by several of the major religious denominations (Catholic, Lutheran, Presbyterian, Friends, etc). However you do NOT need to belong to the same religion as is providing a particular weekend to participate in that weekend. Non-denominational Christians, in particular, should find themselves welcome and comfortable at whichever weekend they choose to participate in. If you happen to belong to one of the denominations listed above, we suggest participating in the one hosted by your denomination, if your schedule allows for this. But THAT you participate is much more important than which one you participate in, so don't get hung up on scheduling considerations.
Special note to Catholics: Many, many Catholic Marriage Encounter weekends are offered in Southern California each year, with weekends offered in all of the counties. The only Catholic Marriage Encounter weekends posted on this website are the ones held in Orange County. (To find other scheduled weekends, follow the instructions above.) With the Catholic program, there is an optional 6-session follow-on weeknight series after the weekend itself. Therefore it is recommended (but not required) that Orange County residents participate in an Orange County weekend. However, if your schedule does not permit this, you may attend the weekend itself at another location, and then participate in the next follow-up series held in Orange County. Of course non-Catholics are welcome at all Catholic Marriage Encounter weekends and follow-up series. The focus of Marriage Encounter is Marriage, not religion.
